Sailing Beauty of Honolulu
Sailing Beauty of Honolulu is a family-owned and operated sailboat charter business, led by a mother-and-son team. Driven by a deep respect for the water, we aim to share our knowledge and create sailing adventures that inspire our guests to connect with and care for the ocean. Captain Donovan’s journey began in 2018 when he first set sail with a charter company in San Diego Bay. Driven by his love of the ocean, he pursued his captain’s license, eventually guiding and transporting vessels along the West Coast of the United States.
In 2022, Captain Donovan took on his greatest challenge yet: a Pacific crossing from Southern California on the sailing vessel “Sailing Beauty” across 2,400 nautical miles of open Pacific Ocean to her new home in Hawaii. Over the course of a 21-day journey, he spent five windless days in the doldrums, and navigated through three hurricanes, a testament to his skill and dedication.
Since her arrival, ”Sailing Beauty” has been beautifully updated with a brand-new deck, perfect for relaxing and soaking in O'ahu’s stunning coastline. With plush new upholstery and a modern Bluetooth sound system, every detail has been designed to elevate your sailing charters at sea.

Alicia Tompkins, owner of Sailing Beauty, purchased Sailing Beauty in Honolulu late 2023, shortly after moving to O'ahu. It was love at first sail—Alicia immediately felt a deep connection to the boat and the ocean. Finding sailing and the water to be profoundly therapeutic, she was inspired to create a business that would allow others to experience the same sense of peace and joy. With Sailing Beauty, Alicia hopes to share her passion for the ocean with all who come aboard.

Captain Donovan Young has sailed the West Coast of the United States, from Northern California down into Mexico. He completed an impressive 21-day trans-Pacific journey, bringing Sailing Beauty from San Diego to Honolulu O'ahu. Since moving to O'ahu, he has Captained boats from Ko'Olina Marina on the island's west side to the Ala Wai Marina in Waikiki, as well as operating vessels out to the Sandbar in Kaneohe Bay. Donovan is proud to share the same love and excitement for sailing with all who come aboard!

Brighton Hedger plays a multifaceted role at Sailing Beauty, managing content, social media, marketing, and reservations. Previously working as a reservation manager for a charter company in San Diego, Brighton moved to Honolulu to pursue her master’s degree in marine science. She’s passionate about creating memorable customer experiences, ensuring every aspect of your journey—from booking to sailing—is seamless and enjoyable. Brighton is committed to sharing the magic of Sailing Beauty with guests, making each adventure as special as the island itself.
